Joan Irvine to Discuss Website Labeling at GAYVN Summit

LOS ANGELES — The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) Executive Director Joan Irvine will speak out about the need to protect children online at the upcoming GAYVN Summit in San Francisco, Feb. 22-24 at the W Hotel.

Irvine’s speech, titled Protecting Children, Protecting Yourself, takes place Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1:45 p.m.

The session will include an update on bills pending in Congress (the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act and the Internet SAFETY Act of 2007) that could make website labeling mandatory for adult sites.

Irvine intends for her speech to be a frank discussion of the need for website labeling and to help adult companies understand the seriousness of the situation and their options. She will report on the ASACP’s new RTA website label that was launched in November.

“The adult industry has an opportunity here to help protect kids online, and also head off possible new regulations,” Irvine said. “That’s a win-win situation. We hope a lot of companies will step up now, just as so many already support ASACP’s efforts to fight child pornography.”
